Dear Senator Obama,

I was shocked and disappointed to learn you were sponsoring a coal-to-liquid fuel program.  This technology is unsustainable for our state and our country.

Adopting this technology means our state move faster towards the devastating effects of climate change described by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and many others.

Illinois has a fantastic opportunity to be a leader in energy conservation and efficiency as well as cost-competitive sustainable energy sources such as prairie hay biofuels and wind power.

Why do you want us to invest in this inefficient and destructive coal technology when so many environmentally sustainable and economically viable choices exist?

Your sincerely,

Geoffrey Morris

Dear Senator Durbin,

I was shocked and disappointed to learn that Sen. Obama was sponsoring a coal-to-liquid fuel program.  This technology is unsustainable for our state and our country.

Adopting this technology means our state move faster towards the devastating effects of climate change described by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and many others.

Moreover, Illinois has a fantastic opportunity to be a leader in energy conservation and efficiency as well as cost-competitive sustainable energy sources such as prairie hay biofuels and wind power.

Will you be fighting against a public investment in inefficient and destructive coal technology, and for the environmentally sustainable and economically viable choices for Illinois?

Your sincerely,

Geoffrey Morris

For a MoveOn survey (05/11/07)

Where is the leadership on climate change and sustainable energy?!

Maybe many of your members are only interested in Iraq but I know there are many of us concerned about climate change.  In the long run (well, really not the long run - 10 years only) that's going to be what really makes a difference.  Would we be in Iraq today if we got all the conservation, efficiency and wind and solar power that we need back in the '70s? No way.

So let's start building progressive vision based on sustainability - no wars for oil, clean air and water, healthy cities and farm communities. Chasing the Republicans around is not a progressive agenda - it's politics as usual.

Sincerely,

Geoffrey Morris

Dear Congressman Davis, If nothing is done to reduce greenhouse gas emissions our state and country will continue towards the devastating effects of climate change described by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and many others. Illinois has a fantastic opportunity to be a leader in energy conservation and efficiency as well as cost-competitive sustainable energy sources such as prairie hay biofuels and wind power. What are you doing to bring environmentally sustainable energy to Illinois and the nation? Your sincerely, Geoffrey Morris
